How to Best Use Facebook’s New Reaction Emoticons

  • Have you been using Facebook’s new emotions yet?
  • Would you like to know how to use them to increase your levels of engagement on Facebook?

Trying to express your sympathy for a friend’s loss, or your anger at a recent post about Telstra’s mobile network service going down….again, has been a Facebook challenge since day one. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like giving the ‘thumbs up’ to a post that I well.. um don’t like!

That’s why Mark Zuckerberg and Co. have just rolled out Facebook’s new reaction emoticons, five new emotional icons (love, ha-ha, wow, sad and angry) that we all get to use in place of the usual thumbs-up like button.

What I have noticed though, is most people are still hitting the ‘lazy like’ button and making no effort to choose a more unique reaction emoticon. I challenge you to start getting creative with the reaction emoticons you use and watch what happens to your level of engagement….I bet it increases!

I know myself, when I see someone has used a different reaction emoticon on one of my posts, other than just hitting the “like” I feel compelled to go and check out who it was, it makes me feel special and I remember it.

Us humans love to feel loved and using the new reaction emoticons is a great way of demonstrating to others, that we care about them. We also have a natural tenancy to repay the gesture when someone gives us extra special attention, it’s called reciprocity… “I’ll scratch your back, if you scratch mine.”

So be sure to go give the new reaction emoticons a try… let me know how you get on… I bet you see a remarkable improvement in your engagement on Facebook when you become unique and you make an effort.

Until next time, may your social media news be great news!
